"On the Rise" is the 5th episode of the first season in Dawn Dusk Gems, and the 5th overall episode of the series.
The Gems and Jace go on a mission to get a healing elixir.
Jace: What’s this mission for?
Jace was visiting the Dawn Dusk Temple again. This time, he got to explore it. He was sitting in Rhodo’s room; a bright colored rose-red room with roaring waterfalls coming from every side. The scenery was nostalgic. Apatite and Rhodochrosite sat with him, along with Lucia, who was napping next to Rhodo.
Apatite: We need to obtain the healing elixir, located at the Solar Sky Spire.
Rhodo: It’s kinda dangerous, Jace. There’s a big sunworm that lives at the top of the spire.
Jace: That’s SO cool!
Apatite: I don’t think we’ll have any difficulty with it.
Rhodo: Not without Chalcedony, we won’t!
Jace: Wait, who’s Chalcedony?...!
Apatite and Rhodo stared at each other, and stared back at Jace.
Apatite: Well, Chalcedony is an amalgam-
Rhodo: She means fusion.
Apatite: Ahem! As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, Chalcedony is an amalgam of ourselves, combining both of our abilities into one powerful gem.
Rhodo: Translation; It’s the two of us. Mashed together.
Jace: You guys can really do that?!
Jace’s eyes sparkled in amazement. Apatite and Rhodo looked a bit weirded out, but it was time to go on the mission. The gems warped with Lucia and Jace to the Solar Sky Spire, where they entered at a warp pad beside the Spire. It was a huge and beautiful tower on the clouds, showing red, orange, and rose-pink lights all around.
Rhodo: Man, if only Larimar was here.
Jace: Who’s Larimar?
Apatite: She was a gem that was in our group years ago. It’s not important now.
Jace: Where’s she now?
Apatite and Rhodo kindly refused to answer his question. It was presumably hard to accept. The Gems and Jace made it to a dead end, where there was a big gap between their platform and the other pathway. The hole was large.
Rhodo: How about we let Jace solve this one?
Apatite: Very well. Go on, Jace.
Jace looked at the crater, than at Apatite, then at the crater again. It seems he has an idea.
Jace: Can you make a cloud bridge?
Apatite: I could, but you should go quickly. I can’t hold it for very long due to these hideous scratch marks.
Rhodo: Well, when we get the healing elixir, you’ll be fine.
Apatite: But only I’m the only one buoyant enough to walk on the clouds. I’m afraid you’ll have to figure this out on your own.
So Apatite made a cloud bridge that she quickly ran across. The cloud bridge disappeared as Apatite deactivated her gem, making it glow. It was up to Rhodo and Jace to figure out how to get across the crater.
Jace: Can I ride on Lucia?
Rhodo: That actually might not be such a bad idea.
Apatite: I’m not sure if that’s the safest solution, but I suppose it works.
Jace climbed on a disapproving Lucia as she pounced across the crater to the other side. Rhodo used his abilities, taking a deep breath, and walked slowly to the other side of the crater. He was walking on air! Jace, as usually, had a question about this.
Jace: How did you do that?!
Rhodo: My gem has the power to balance out things and relieve stress. Pretty sick, huh?
Jace’s eyes sparkled, and the group continued on. It took a while to get to the top of the spire, crossing craters and fighting small gems monsters. It was getting a bit repetitive for Jace. Finally, however, the group made it to the top of the spire. It had a gigantic dome where the staircase downstairs was located and a big flat open plane in the shape of a circle that the Gems were standing on as the base. The healing elixir was in the center of the floor, hovering and spinning slowly. It was a flask with a strange blue liquid with a very low viscosity, possibly as low as water. Apatite stepped out of the dome, walked to the elixir with Rhodo, Jace, and Lucia, and took the elixir out of its position.
Apatite: That’s odd. Where’s the sunworm?
Suddenly, the spire was shaking insanely. The group tried to keep their balance. The sunworm erupted from the floor, shattering parts of it. It screeched.
Rhodo: You jinxed it.
The sandworm charged at the group, causing the Gems to run into the dome. However, Jace and Lucia were swallowed by the worm. Apatite and Rhodochrosite stared at each other in fear. They knew what they had to do. They stood in their positions and started the fusion process.
Their gems started to glow. They did freestyle moves, as if they were at a school dance, which was more of Rhodochrosite’s personality. They closed their eyes to concentrate. They switched to a ballroom dance, which was more of Apatite’s personality. Finally, Rhodo embraced Apatite, and they fused. A beautiful flash with lavender stars erupted from the transformation. They turned into a 4-armed giant woman the size of an oak tree. They broke the dome with their height, and chased the sunworm down.
Chalcedony: It’s great to be me again.
Chalcedony raced to the sunworm, which was flying around in a wavy motion around the spire. Chalcedony summoned Apatite and Rhodo’s weapons from their gems, combining them into a long and intimidating trident. The trident shot energy blasts from their three tips, damaging the sunworm. The sunworm let out an uneasy screech. She threw her trident directly onto the sunworm, making it revert back into its gem. Jace and Lucia were falling from the sky. Lucia growled, forming a portal that took her to the warp pad. Chalcedony caught Jace with her cloud abilities, later catching him herself, and balancing out the plane so that they could get to the warp pad safely. Jace’s jaw dropped.
Jace: Are… Are you Chalcedony?
Chalcedony: In the flesh.
